If all goes well, the Artemis II mission could lift off on March 6, with a two-hour launch window opening at 8:29 pm EST (01:29 UTC on March 7). NASA has backup launch dates in March, but the mission might need to wait until April. The launch window is limited to approximately five days per month due to the Moon's position, flight trajectory, and thermal and lighting constraints.
The Artemis II mission will be a historic 9-10 day journey. NASA's Orion spacecraft, commanded by Reid Wiseman, will carry pilot Victor Glover and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen around the far side of the Moon. Upon their return, they will set a new record for the farthest humans have ever traveled from Earth and become the first people to fly near the Moon since 1972.
