In a significant development, the Girard Water Department has announced that a recent water main break has been successfully repaired, yet residents in the vicinity of Beechwood Avenue—specifically between Park Avenue and Churchill Road—are currently facing a boil advisory. Approximately two hours ago, the water supply for 44 homes along Beechwood Avenue was temporarily disrupted for about an hour while the repairs were being carried out. According to Mike Scoville, the Girard Water Superintendent, the restoration work was completed by 6:30 p.m. However, despite the repair, a precautionary boil advisory has been issued due to the possibility of water contamination that could occur during the depressurization of the water lines.
Scoville emphasized that residents should take caution by boiling only cold water from their taps, as using hot water might inadvertently draw lead contaminants from standard faucets. The water department has advised that in order to ensure the safety of drinking water, residents must bring their cold tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before consumption.
