Get ready for a game-changer! The Golden State Valkyries have just scored a major win with their newest addition, Denise Romero, as Vice President of Basketball Administration. But here's where it gets interesting...
With over two decades of basketball administration experience, Romero is a true veteran in the game. Her expertise spans both the NBA and WNBA, making her a valuable asset to the Valkyries.
"Denise's experience is unparalleled," says Ohemaa Nyanin, General Manager of the Valkyries. "She has a proven track record of building efficient systems and fostering strong relationships, ensuring smooth operations. Her knowledge in logistics and team coordination will be a game-changer for us."
In her new role, Romero will oversee all administrative aspects of basketball operations, with a focus on managing the Valkyries' dedicated staff. She will also act as a crucial link between basketball and business operations, ensuring a seamless connection within the Golden State organization.
Romero's journey to the Valkyries began with the Phoenix Suns and Mercury organizations, where she spent over 20 years. Her most recent role was as Team Travel & Logistics Manager for Player 15 Group, overseeing all travel arrangements for the Suns. Prior to that, she made history as the NBA's first female Equipment Manager, a role she held from 2016 to 2022. Romero's career began with the Mercury in 2003, and she quickly rose through the ranks, becoming their Basketball Operations Manager & Equipment Manager in 2005.
"Denise's impact on the Suns and Mercury organizations was immense," Nyanin adds. "Her ability to manage complex logistics and coordinate team activities, from practices to travel, is a testament to her skill and dedication. We're excited to have her on board."
And this is the part most people miss... Romero's educational background in tourism and recreation management from Arizona State University gives her a unique perspective on the business side of basketball.
